Bhaktivedanta Players Photo Gallery As part of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), the Bhaktivedanta Players were founded in 1973, very soon after ISKCON moved into the Manor, the Hare Krishna temple, in Hertfordshire. The Founder Acharya of ISKCON, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, was a great admirer of drama, culture and the arts and hoped for spiritual dramas to be performed throughout the United Kingdom. Swami Prabhupada established the troupe so that timeless Vedic wisdom might be made accessible to modern audiences. The players present spiritual anecdotes and philosophical themes, demonstrating the relevance of Vedic culture in changing modern and materialistic times. They use both tradition and contemporary style plays to do this. At the annual festive of Janmashtami, the players perform the glorious narrative of Krishna's appearance to an audience of 15,000 people. At Diwali, they enact the timeless epic 'Ramayan', which celebrates victory of good over evil. Spectacular scenes include dramatic battles between the mighty Hanuman and the demonic armies of King Ravana and Ravana finally being slain by Lord Ramachandra. Famed stories of magnificent heroes, heroines, gods and demigods have been excellently received by school children eager to learn about Vedic culture. The players perform for school groups that visit the temple and have taken the 'Ramayan' to countless locations over the years. The
Bhaktivedanta players have provided a rich source of entertainment and spiritual
inspiration for audiences everywhere and have enjoyed both national and international
success. They are funded entirely by voluntary donations, but have travelled to
many places around the world. Their tours have been sponsored by a number of organisations
that have been impressed with their work. The players have performed in America,
Europe, Eastern Europe, Asia, India, South Africa and East Africa.
