SAT SANGA

Nurturing your spiritual growth

Many people ask the question, "What does it mean to be a devotee of Lord Krishna?" Some think that it means to give up one's occupation, change one's hairstyle or to go and live in an ashram. Well, you'll be surprised because this is not the answer offered in the sacred teachings of the Vedas. Five hundred years ago, Lord Chaitanya (incarnation of Lord Krishna) taught that for one to become a devotee, he doesn't have to change anything. He said stane sthitah srutigatam tanuvan manobhih: 'Stay where you are, and continue what you're doing, but add one thing, daily chant the holy names of Krishna and hear about His teachings." There is no need to leave your job or your family. You can be a devotee at home.

However, being a devotee of Krishna may not be so easy in this modern world. A little guidance, reassurance and above all, some care and attention goes a long way in our spiritual pursuit. The devotees at Bhaktivedanta Manor offer a unique service of Satsanga. Devotees are invited to many homes to discuss, teach and offer counsel on the various practices of Krishna consciousness. Sanga means association, and it is always helpful to associate with like minded people in order to enhance our own practices, faith and determination. This association with other devotees of the Lord offers the essential ingredients for nurturing our spiritual growth.

A Sat sanga gathering includes the chanting of the mahamantra: Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare, and other prayers; reading and discussing scriptures such as the Bhavagad-gita; and enjoying delicious prasadam (sanctified food). It is an enlivening experience!

Why not take this opportunity of Sat sanga Whether to learn further about the Bhagavad-gita, to ask those questions you've always wanted answered, or to introduce friends to Krishna consciousness, we will be more than willing to offer this service for you.
