DESCRIPTION:Thursday 8 September 2022\nMahatma Prabhu was born in Los Angeles\, California in 1950. In 1969\, at the age of 19\, he first met Srila Prabhupada through The Bhagavad Gita As It Is\, and then later that year met Srila Prabhupada personally in Los Angeles. In January of 1970 he moved into the temple in Berkeley\, California and shortly after received first and second initiation. He went on to do a variety of services including book distribution\, sankirtan leader\, temple president\, college preaching\, congregational development\, and various educational projects. DESCRIPTION:Friday 12 August 2022\nMichael Cassidy [Mangalananda Das] was born May 16\, 1949 in Manchester\, New Hampshire\, USA. \nIn 1971\, Michael became an initiated disciple of A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami\, the renowned scholar who translated Bhagavad-gita: As It Is\, the jewel of India’s spiritual wisdom. The combination of studying the teachings of bhakti-yoga and practicing the disciplines became a continuous source of inspiration and enlightenment for Michael. He had the opportunity to debut his work prior to his first indie release\, A Change of Heart. In an intimate meeting with his spiritual teacher in 1975\, his guru was very pleased and blessed the project. A Change of Heart was released in 1976 followed by four more albums between 1977 and 1985. \nThis concert is free for everyone to attend\, no ticket required. He holds numerous degrees including a PhD in Hinduism from the University of Oxford. He also holds the Charles Redd Chair of Religious Studies at Utah State University\, and serves as Director of the Religious Studies Program. \nHe is the author or editor of four books\, including an abridged translation of the Bhagavata Purana.He has received four teaching awards\, a National Endowment for the Humanities summer fellowship\, and two research fellowships at Oxford. He is a Permanent Research Fellow of the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies and a past president of the Society for Hindu Christian Studies. He was one of the pioneers of School of Bhakti\, a unique centre of spiritual excellence which organises courses\, retreats and various cultural events. Sutapa also heads the monastic training programme\, leads on national outreach projects\, and is a mentor and counsellor for the community at large. He has designed and taught numerous courses on spirituality\, lifestyle management\, success principles\, and devotional practices\, and has also authored ten books which bring the ancient wisdom into the modern context. Sutapa has lectured at universities and corporate organisations\, and is now a world-traveller\, bringing spirituality to the places which need it most! \nFor over twenty years\, Sutapa has studied ancient Sanskrit texts in depth\, particularly the Bhagavad-gita\, and has a passion to share the insights and worldviews that these texts offer. Originally from London suburbs\, he was always attracted to the idea of ’simple living\, high thinking.’ In 2002\, after graduating from UCL (University College London) with a BSc in Information Management\, he adopted full-time monastic life to further his knowledge\, deepen his spirituality\, and share these timeless principles with the wider society. \nAbout Sannyasa\nAnyone who has no other interest but to dedicate his life to the service of the Lord is actually a sannyasi. From 1985 through 1990 he coordinated the construction of Srila Prabhupada’s samadhi in Mayapur.
