SUMMARY:Appearance of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur
DESCRIPTION:Monday 16 September 2024\nSrila Bhaktivinoda Thakur (1838-1914) is a prominent preceptor acharya in our succession of spiritual masters and disciples coming from Lord Krishna. He was a pioneering spiritual leader\, a householder\, a magistrate working in colonial India under the British rule\, a prolific preacher\, writer\, and poet. He wrote volumes of books reintroducing the pure teachings of Lord Chaitanya at a time when those teachings had practically become lost. He composed hundreds of devotional songs glorifying Krishna to uplift the consciousness of the suffering people of this world. He corresponded with philosophers\, theologians\, leaders\, scholars\, and professors of his time and sent books\, including The Life and Precepts of Lord Chaitanya\, to university libraries in foreign countries\, planting the seeds for a worldwide movement of Krishna consciousness. Bhaktivinoda Thakur discovered and excavated the birthplace of Lord Chaitanya. Along with his devoted wife\, Bhagavati Devi\, he raised ten children\, including the illustrious Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur\, who would become a great spiritual leader in his own time and the spiritual master of ISKCON’s founder-acharya\, His Divine Grace A.C. List of family members pdf \nAbout śrāddha from Srila Prabhupada\nSri Caitanya Mahaprabhu went to Gaya to offer respectful oblations to His forefathers. This process is called pinda-dana. In Vedic society\, after the death of a relative\, especially one’s father or mother\, one must go to Gaya and there offer oblations to the lotus feet of Lord\nVishnu. Therefore hundreds and thousands of men gather daily to offer such oblations\, or sraddha. Following this principle\, Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu also went there to offer pinda to His dead father. (Sri Caitanya-caritamrta\, Adi 17.8\, Purport) \nAfter death according to Vedic regulations\, pinda-udaka\, pinda\, offering Vishnu prasada and water at least once in a year\, it is required by the family members. And according to Vedic culture\, there is one month fixed up in a year when all people will offer pinda and udaka to the forefathers. (Lecture\, London\, July 29\, 1973) \nImportance and need of performing śrāddha\nIn Srimad Bhagavatam Lord Sri Narasimha Himself recommends performing of Shraddha ceremony by His devotee Prahlada after delivering Hiranyakashipu. \nkuru tvaṁ preta-kṛ tyāni pituḥ pūtasya sarvaśaḥ\nMad-aṅ ga-sparśanenāṅ ga lokān yāsyati suprajāḥ\nMy dear child\, your father has already been purified just by the touch of My body at the time of his death. Nonetheless\, the duty of a son is to perform the śrāddha ritualistic ceremony after his father’s death so that his father may be promoted to a planetary system where he may become a good citizen and devotee. (SB 7.10.22) \nObjectives of performing śrāddha\n…What is putra pinda? Caitanya Mahaprabhu also showed us the example. He went to Gaya Pradesh to offer pinda for His forefathers. This is necessary still… There are many practical cases that one’s father or mother became a ghost after death\, and after offering oblations at the lotus feet of Vishnu at Gaya\, he was delivered. There are many cases. So\, actual fact is Vishnu worship. That is the ultimate goal of Vedic civilization\, but they do not know. (Srila Prabhupada lecture\, Surat\, January 3\, 1971) \nPrayers and types of the śrāddha ritual\nThe best process for the śrāddha ceremony is to distribute bhāgavata-prasāda (remnants of food that has first been offered to Kṛṣṇa) to all of one’s forefathers and relatives. This makes a first-class śrāddha ceremony. (SB 7.15 summary) \nThere are three kinds of ceremonies — specifically\, ceremonies to please the Supreme Personality of Godhead or the demigods\, those performed for social celebrations like marriages and birthdays\, and those meant to please the forefathers\, like the śrāddha ceremony. In all these ceremonies\, large amounts of money are spent for various activities\, but here it is suggested that if along with this there is recitation of the wonderful activities of Vāmanadeva\, certainly the ceremony will be carried out successfully and will be free of all discrepancies. (SB 8.23.31 purport) \nThe effects of the śrāddha ritual\nThere is a hell which is called pun. So from that hellish condition\, one who delivers\, trāyate iti tra\, therefore he is called putra. This is… Every Sanskrit word has got meaning\, root meaning. Putra. Putra-piṇḍa-prayojanam. Putra is required. Why? After death\, if by chance the father does not get ordinary life or goes to the hellish condition of life\, the son will deliver. Therefore śrāddha ceremony. There is śrāddha… What is that śrāddha ceremony? Śrāddha ceremony means to offer foodstuff to Viṣṇu\, and with the prasādam\, to the forefathers or father it is offered\, so that by eating prasādam\, if he is in ghost life or in hellish life\, he’ll be delivered. This is called śrāddha. (Srila Prabhupada lecture Vrindavan\, SB 1.5.24\, August 5\, 1974\,) \nWho can perform śrāddha\nSanatan Dharma that does not give any cause for excuse for not performing śrāddha due to the absence of a particular person. Son\, daughter\, grandson\, great grandson\, wife\, daughter’s son\, brother\, nephew\, cousin’s son\, father\, mother\, daughter-in-law\, son of elderly and younger sisters\, maternal uncle\, anyone in the seven generations and from the same lineage (sapiṇḍa)\, anyone after the seven generations and belonging to the same family domain (samanodak)\, disciple\, priests (upadhyay)\, friend\, son-in-law of the deceased can perform Śrāddha in that order. In case of a joint family\, the eldest and earning male should perform Śrāddha. In the case of the unit family\, everyone should perform śrāddha independently. \nSanatan Dharma has made arrangements so that for each and every dead person śrāddha can be performed so as to give momentum to that person to progress to a higher sub-plane. Dharma Sindhu mentions that: ‘If a particular dead person does not have any relative or a close person\, then it is the duty of the king to perform Śrāddha for that person. Normally every year Śrāddha should be performed on the date of death of the person (the Vaishnava calendar and not as per the Western calendar). \nConsidering the complexity in pronouncing certain Sanskrit words and limitation to understand the rites mentioned in the science\, it may not be possible for everyone to perform the ritual as prescribed\, by themselves. DESCRIPTION:Sun 13 October 2024 – Free ticket required for entry between 2pm – 7pm\nDussehra celebrates the victory of Lord Ramachandra over Ravana during the battle in Lanka. This pastime appears in the great epic Ramayana. The word Dussehra comes from the word `dus` meaning `ten’ and `hara`\, meaning `annihilated`\, referring to the destruction of the ten-headed Ravana. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTICKETING UPDATE\nAll tickets are currently sold out.  Due to the recent wet weather all our fields are water logged and not suitable for parking. This has limited the number of people who can come to this event. We will not be releasing anymore tickets.  If people cancel tickets they will become available on the booking platforms. The importance of this month is described extensively in the scriptures\, especially in Srila Rupa Goswami’s Mathura Mahatmya. \nEvery day\, devotees come to the Temple and offer a candle to Lord Damodara. The Damodarastakam\, a series of eight beautiful verses by the great sage Satyavrata Muni\, is sung daily in the morning and evening. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	Daily Schedule\n\nMorning\n7am-7:20am \nEvening\n4:20pm  – 7:30pm \nNotes:\nCandles will be provided free of charge to everyone. He never accepted material goods from anyone\, wearing discarded loincloths from corpses left on the bank of the Ganges. He begged for rice\, soaking it in river water\, and adding only salt and chilies. Accepting no favors\, he remained fully detached from all possessions. \nSrila Gaura Kishora das Babaji lived for some thirty years in Vrindavana\, serving the deities and offering his prostrate obeisances to all the living entities of Vraja\, whom he considered to be embodiments of Sri Krsna. He eventually left Vrindavana for Navadvipa. \nAt Navadvipa\, Srila Gaura Kishora das Babaji entered moods of deep spiritual ecstasy\, sometimes dancing on the bank of the Ganges chanting\, “Gaura\, Gaura”. \nBhishma Panchaka \nThe last five days of the month of Kartik are traditionally known as Bhishma Panchaka or Vishnu Panchaka. Those who fail to observe four months of Caturmasya fasting receive the same benefit by fasting on these last five days. \nRūpa Gosvāmī has stated in the Nectar of Devotion that although any devotional service offered to the Lord is extremely powerful\, five are especially potent; \n1- Residing in the holy place \n2- Worshipping the Deity of the Lord \n3- Reciting Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam \n4- Serving a devotee \n5- Chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra \nAt the temple\, we automatically engage in all five potent activities. Bhaktivedanta Manor is a holy place because Radha Gokulananda are residing there. Attending the arati ceremony involves worshipping the deity and chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra. DESCRIPTION:Join us every Sunday in the Sri Krishna Haveli. Filled with chanting & dancing\, enlivening wisdom\, culture & entertainment\, and of course the delicious prasadam (feast). \nThis will be a family friendly event\, with something for everyone. He is known for his significant contribution to the practice of contemplation and meditation for modern practitioners of bhakti. Sacinandana Swami has published seven books and released two CDs\, and offers an array of retreats\, seminars\, and workshops. Thousands of enthusiastic singers and dancers visit his kirtan concerts. Fond of India’s sacred pilgrimage sites\, he annually goes there to seek personal inspiration.
