He came as Laxman with Rama and later as Sri Nityananda Prabhu with Lord Caitanya. He is the original spiritual master\, and any one desiring to make spiritual progress must first get the mercy of Lord Balarama. \nBalaram Jayanti\, the appearance of Lord Balarama\, celebrates the activities and pastimes of Lord Krishna’s brother\, Lord Balarama. DESCRIPTION:Fri 16 – Mon 19 August 2024\n\nThe four-day celebration of Jhulan at Bhaktivedanta Manor\, when Sri Sri Radha Gokulananda are placed on a swing and swung by Their devotees\, is a joyous occasion. \nDuring this special time all of us can throng to the temple and please the transcendental eternal forms of Sri Sri Radha Gokulananda. These transcendental forms of the Lord\, called Archa-Vigraha\, are installed in the temple and are non-different from Them personally. These forms are expanded by the Lord by His internal potency to facilitate the devotional service of His innumerable devotees who are in the material world. \nSince our material senses cannot perceive the spiritual nature of Sri Sri Radha Gokulananda\, They accept such Archa Vigraha apparently made of a material element such as marble\, but actually there is no material contamination. DESCRIPTION:Friday 9 August 2024\nIn 1973\, Sivarama Swami joined the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON)\, a dynamic organisation representing Vaishnavism\, and became a disciple of ISKCON’s Founder-Acharya\, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Six years later\, at age 29\, he entered a life of renunciation and was awarded the order of sannyasa (celibate monk). In 1987 he was ordained as an initiating spiritual master in the Vaishnava denomination. \nSivarama Swami is an internationally acknowledged religious leader\, theologian\, author of 23 books and dozens of articles\, and an environmental and human rights activist. DESCRIPTION:Tuesday 6 August 2024\nJoin us for an evening of Sadhu Sanga with Bhanu Swami \nTopic: “Srila Prabhupada – The Pre-Eminent Acharya of ISKCON” \nBhanu Swami was born in Canada and holds a BA in Oriental fine arts history from the University of British Colombia. He joined the Hare Krishna movement in India in 1970. Initiated in 1971 by Srila Prabhupada\, he took sannyasa vows in 1984. Bhanu Swami was personally instructed in the art of Deity worship by Srila Prabhupada\, and within ISKCON he has become an authority on the topic. \nA scholar in Sanskrit and Bengali\, Bhanu Swami has translated fifteen significant works of the Gaudiya Vaishnava canon\, with six more titles in progress. Many of these works are commentaries from primary members of the Gaudiya sampradaya on the Bhagavad-gita\, Sri-Isopanishad\, and Srimad Bhagavatam. As a child she was fascinated with song and story\, and has nurtured that interest through her life long exploration of music\, dance\, visual art and the written word. DESCRIPTION:Sunday 21 July 2024 – Hyde Park Corner\n\n“Ratha-yatra” means “chariot festival”. This celebration has been held every year for hundreds of years at Jagannatha Puri\, in Orissa on India’s east coast. There\, three huge chariots\, carrying the Deity forms of Jagannatha\, Baladeva and Subhadra\, are pulled by hand through the city streets amid loud musical performances. Millions of pilgrims come to the festival in Orissa. Jagannatha is a special and very merciful form of Krishna. \nRatha-yatra is the biggest street festival sponsored by ISKCON – and ends with a delicious\, sanctified vegetarian feast. It is celebrated by devotees of Lord Krishna all over the world and was introduced to the West by His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in 1967 in San Franscisco. The Ratha-yatra festivals are held at several different places across the country\, the biggest in London. \nThe London procession starts from Hyde Park Corner\, goes through Park Lane\, Piccadilly and Haymarket and finally arrives at Trafalgar Square\, where festivities continue till night. The Rathayatra assembles near there so look out for the tall brightly coloured canopies of the Rath Carts. \nNational Rail Enquiries for rail information. \nComing by Road\nParking on Sunday is OK on single yellow lines in Westminster or you can stay safe with the NCP car parks. There is one just north of Trafalgar Square. Please remember there is no parking at the assembly point in Hyde Park nor any at Trafalgar Square. \nThe AA main routes and parking information. The procession assembles just inside Hyde Park -500 yards west of Hyde Park Corner. You will clearly spot the three colourful carts as you approach. There are three or four kirtan (singing and instrument) sections\, each with dancers. You can pull the ropes on the cart (which bestows liberation) but please follow the instructions of stewards and staff. The cart leaves Hyde Park promptly at mid-day and arrives at Trafalgar Square around 2.30pm. This can feel like a long journey on a hot day and a OAP van is provided at the rear of the procession for the infirm. DESCRIPTION:Friday 5 July 2024\nSrila Bhaktivinoda Thakur (1838-1914) is a prominent preceptor acharya in our succession of spiritual masters and disciples coming from Lord Krishna. He was a pioneering spiritual leader\, a householder\, a magistrate working in colonial India under the British rule\, a prolific preacher\, writer\, and poet. He wrote volumes of books reintroducing the pure teachings of Lord Chaitanya at a time when those teachings had practically become lost. He composed hundreds of devotional songs glorifying Krishna to uplift the consciousness of the suffering people of this world. He corresponded with philosophers\, theologians\, leaders\, scholars\, and professors of his time and sent books\, including The Life and Precepts of Lord Chaitanya\, to university libraries in foreign countries\, planting the seeds for a worldwide movement of Krishna consciousness. Bhaktivinoda Thakur discovered and excavated the birthplace of Lord Chaitanya. This pastime took place on the banks of the Ganges at Panihati\, which is just north of Calcutta. Lord Chaitanya and his associates enjoyed many transcendental pastimes here. It is observed eleven days after the full moon and eleven days after the new moon of every month. Ekadasi is known as the day of Lord Hari and is said to be the mother of devotion. Keeping the fast on Ekadasi is one of the sixty-four items of devotional service listed in Srila Rupa Gosvami’s Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu. In fact\, it is one of the first ten. \nThe Nectar of Devotion\, Srila Prabhupada’s summary study of Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu\, states\, “In the Brahma-vaivarta Purana it is said that one who observes fasting on Ekadasi day is freed from all kinds of reactions to sinful activities and advances in pious life. The basic principle is not just to fast\, but to increase one’s faith and love for Govinda\, or Krsna. The real reason for observing fasting on Ekadasi is to minimize the demands of the body and to engage our time in the service of the Lord by chanting or performing similar service. The best thing to do on fasting days is to remember the pastimes of Govinda and to hear His holy name constantly.” \nPandava Nirjala Ekadasi \n“Pandava” refers to the Pandavas\, the sons of Emperor Pandu. One such son was Arjuna\, to whom Krishna spoke the Bhagavad-gita. Another son of Pandu was Bhima\, a most powerful warrior and a most voracious eater. He was not one who welcomed fasting\, and admitted to not being able to follow Ekadasi. However\, he was told that if he observed complete fasting on one particular Ekadasi day annually\, he would get all the spiritual benefits of having followed every Ekadasi fast of the year.
