SUMMARY:Month of Kartik
DESCRIPTION:17 October – 15 November 2024\n\nDuring this time\, pilgrims come from far and wide to offer a lamp to Mother Yasoda and Lord Krishna. The importance of this month is described extensively in the scriptures\, especially in Srila Rupa Goswami’s Mathura Mahatmya. \nEvery day\, devotees come to the Temple and offer a candle to Lord Damodara. The Damodarastakam\, a series of eight beautiful verses by the great sage Satyavrata Muni\, is sung daily in the morning and evening. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	Daily Schedule\n\nMorning\n7am-7:20am \nEvening\n4:20pm  – 7:30pm \nNotes:\nCandles will be provided free of charge to everyone. Please do not bring your own candles\, lamps or ghee wicks for offering. One candle per person. \nOfferings will be paused between 6:30pm – 7pm as the curtains will be closed at this time. During this time there will be a special talk given on Krishna’s pastimes. \nChildren under 5 will not be given a candle. Children must be supervised at all times. \nOffering times and locations may vary on festival days \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	Listen to the story of Kartik\n\nCreated by Bhaktivedanta Players. List of family members pdf \nAbout śrāddha from Srila Prabhupada\nSri Caitanya Mahaprabhu went to Gaya to offer respectful oblations to His forefathers. This process is called pinda-dana. In Vedic society\, after the death of a relative\, especially one’s father or mother\, one must go to Gaya and there offer oblations to the lotus feet of Lord\nVishnu. Therefore hundreds and thousands of men gather daily to offer such oblations\, or sraddha. Following this principle\, Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu also went there to offer pinda to His dead father. (Sri Caitanya-caritamrta\, Adi 17.8\, Purport) \nAfter death according to Vedic regulations\, pinda-udaka\, pinda\, offering Vishnu prasada and water at least once in a year\, it is required by the family members. And according to Vedic culture\, there is one month fixed up in a year when all people will offer pinda and udaka to the forefathers. (Lecture\, London\, July 29\, 1973) \nImportance and need of performing śrāddha\nIn Srimad Bhagavatam Lord Sri Narasimha Himself recommends performing of Shraddha ceremony by His devotee Prahlada after delivering Hiranyakashipu. \nkuru tvaṁ preta-kṛ tyāni pituḥ pūtasya sarvaśaḥ\nMad-aṅ ga-sparśanenāṅ ga lokān yāsyati suprajāḥ\nMy dear child\, your father has already been purified just by the touch of My body at the time of his death. Nonetheless\, the duty of a son is to perform the śrāddha ritualistic ceremony after his father’s death so that his father may be promoted to a planetary system where he may become a good citizen and devotee. (SB 7.10.22) \nObjectives of performing śrāddha\n…What is putra pinda? Caitanya Mahaprabhu also showed us the example. He went to Gaya Pradesh to offer pinda for His forefathers. This is necessary still… There are many practical cases that one’s father or mother became a ghost after death\, and after offering oblations at the lotus feet of Vishnu at Gaya\, he was delivered. There are many cases. So\, actual fact is Vishnu worship. That is the ultimate goal of Vedic civilization\, but they do not know. (Srila Prabhupada lecture\, Surat\, January 3\, 1971) \nPrayers and types of the śrāddha ritual\nThe best process for the śrāddha ceremony is to distribute bhāgavata-prasāda (remnants of food that has first been offered to Kṛṣṇa) to all of one’s forefathers and relatives. This makes a first-class śrāddha ceremony. (SB 7.15 summary) \nThere are three kinds of ceremonies — specifically\, ceremonies to please the Supreme Personality of Godhead or the demigods\, those performed for social celebrations like marriages and birthdays\, and those meant to please the forefathers\, like the śrāddha ceremony. In all these ceremonies\, large amounts of money are spent for various activities\, but here it is suggested that if along with this there is recitation of the wonderful activities of Vāmanadeva\, certainly the ceremony will be carried out successfully and will be free of all discrepancies. (SB 8.23.31 purport) \nThe effects of the śrāddha ritual\nThere is a hell which is called pun. So from that hellish condition\, one who delivers\, trāyate iti tra\, therefore he is called putra. This is… Every Sanskrit word has got meaning\, root meaning. Putra. Putra-piṇḍa-prayojanam. Putra is required. Why? After death\, if by chance the father does not get ordinary life or goes to the hellish condition of life\, the son will deliver. Therefore śrāddha ceremony. There is śrāddha… What is that śrāddha ceremony? Śrāddha ceremony means to offer foodstuff to Viṣṇu\, and with the prasādam\, to the forefathers or father it is offered\, so that by eating prasādam\, if he is in ghost life or in hellish life\, he’ll be delivered. This is called śrāddha. (Srila Prabhupada lecture Vrindavan\, SB 1.5.24\, August 5\, 1974\,) \nWho can perform śrāddha\nSanatan Dharma that does not give any cause for excuse for not performing śrāddha due to the absence of a particular person. Son\, daughter\, grandson\, great grandson\, wife\, daughter’s son\, brother\, nephew\, cousin’s son\, father\, mother\, daughter-in-law\, son of elderly and younger sisters\, maternal uncle\, anyone in the seven generations and from the same lineage (sapiṇḍa)\, anyone after the seven generations and belonging to the same family domain (samanodak)\, disciple\, priests (upadhyay)\, friend\, son-in-law of the deceased can perform Śrāddha in that order. In case of a joint family\, the eldest and earning male should perform Śrāddha. In the case of the unit family\, everyone should perform śrāddha independently. \nSanatan Dharma has made arrangements so that for each and every dead person śrāddha can be performed so as to give momentum to that person to progress to a higher sub-plane. Dharma Sindhu mentions that: ‘If a particular dead person does not have any relative or a close person\, then it is the duty of the king to perform Śrāddha for that person. Normally every year Śrāddha should be performed on the date of death of the person (the Vaishnava calendar and not as per the Western calendar). \nConsidering the complexity in pronouncing certain Sanskrit words and limitation to understand the rites mentioned in the science\, it may not be possible for everyone to perform the ritual as prescribed\, by themselves. In such cases one can get the ritual performed through priests and if they are not available\, then the ritual can be performed with the help of knowledgeable people. \nIf the date is not known and only the month is known\, then in that case śrāddha can be performed on the last day of Śrāddha period. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	Frequently asked questions\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWill there be parking available?\n\n\n\nYes. SUMMARY:Appearance of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur
DESCRIPTION:Monday 16 September 2024\nSrila Bhaktivinoda Thakur (1838-1914) is a prominent preceptor acharya in our succession of spiritual masters and disciples coming from Lord Krishna. He was a pioneering spiritual leader\, a householder\, a magistrate working in colonial India under the British rule\, a prolific preacher\, writer\, and poet. He wrote volumes of books reintroducing the pure teachings of Lord Chaitanya at a time when those teachings had practically become lost. He composed hundreds of devotional songs glorifying Krishna to uplift the consciousness of the suffering people of this world. He corresponded with philosophers\, theologians\, leaders\, scholars\, and professors of his time and sent books\, including The Life and Precepts of Lord Chaitanya\, to university libraries in foreign countries\, planting the seeds for a worldwide movement of Krishna consciousness. Bhaktivinoda Thakur discovered and excavated the birthplace of Lord Chaitanya. Along with his devoted wife\, Bhagavati Devi\, he raised ten children\, including the illustrious Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur\, who would become a great spiritual leader in his own time and the spiritual master of ISKCON’s founder-acharya\, His Divine Grace A.C. SUMMARY:Jhulan Yatra
DESCRIPTION:Fri 16 – Mon 19 August 2024\n\nThe four-day celebration of Jhulan at Bhaktivedanta Manor\, when Sri Sri Radha Gokulananda are placed on a swing and swung by Their devotees\, is a joyous occasion. \nDuring this special time all of us can throng to the temple and please the transcendental eternal forms of Sri Sri Radha Gokulananda. These transcendental forms of the Lord\, called Archa-Vigraha\, are installed in the temple and are non-different from Them personally. These forms are expanded by the Lord by His internal potency to facilitate the devotional service of His innumerable devotees who are in the material world. \nSince our material senses cannot perceive the spiritual nature of Sri Sri Radha Gokulananda\, They accept such Archa Vigraha apparently made of a material element such as marble\, but actually there is no material contamination. The  Supreme Personality of Godhead and His eternal consort are waiting for us to fill our hearts with transcendental happiness by serving Their beautiful transcendental forms as They swing at Bhaktivedanta Manor during Jhulan-yatra. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	Schedule\n\nMorning 7am \nEvening 4:45pm-6:15pm \nPlease bring your own flowers to offer to the deities \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	Frequently asked questions\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWill there be parking available?\n\n\n\nYes. SUMMARY:'Srila Prabhupada' The Divine Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Date: Sat 27 & Sun 28 July 2024\nTime: 10am-7pm each day \nLocation: Bhakti Lounge (near the Temple Room)\nYou are cordially invited to the exclusive opening of Srila Prabhupada: The Divine Art Exhibition\, a magnificent showcase by the esteemed artist Haridas Thakur Das. This is a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in the exquisite collection of oil paintings\, featuring profound portraits of Srila Prabhupada\, alongside mesmerising depictions of other revered devotees and Lord Krishna. \nAbout Haridas Thakur Das \nHaridas Thakur Das\, a visual arts graduate with extensive experience in research\, education\, art\, and spirituality\, has dedicated many years as a monk at the Radha Gopinath Temple in downtown Mumbai. His life’s mission has been to promote spiritual wellbeing in society\, inspired by his spiritual master\, HH Radhanath Swami. \nFrom an early age\, Haridas was captivated by art and painting\, receiving training from his devout father\, a talented artist. His brief time in the industry introduced him to the philosophy of Bhakti Yoga\, merging his passions for art and spirituality. This fusion led him to join the Mumbai monastery\, where he embarked on a project to illustrate the pastimes and incarnations of Lord Krishna\, now beautifully displayed on the walls of the Radha Gopinath Temple. \nDriven by a missionary spirit and inspired by the life and teachings of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada\, Haridas has created over 50 oil paintings and authored “Illustrations and Illuminations\,” a book featuring his depictions of Srila Prabhupada and an artistic exploration of Vedic theology. His artwork\, characterised by detailed characters\, vibrant shades\, and unique perspectives\, brings a divine essence to his subjects. \nDrawing inspiration from Bhakti texts like the Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam\, as well as celebrated artists such as Raja Ravi Varma\, S.M. Pandit\, Rembrandt\, and William-Adolphe Bouguereau\, Haridas merges classical and spiritual influences in his work.\nIn addition to sharing his artistic knowledge with enthusiasts\, Haridas also teaches contemporary wisdom from Bhakti texts at prestigious institutions like the JJ School of Art and to members of the Indian Navy and Army in Mumbai. \nFree to attend

SUMMARY:London Rathayatra
DESCRIPTION:Sunday 21 July 2024 – Hyde Park Corner\n\n“Ratha-yatra” means “chariot festival”. This celebration has been held every year for hundreds of years at Jagannatha Puri\, in Orissa on India’s east coast. There\, three huge chariots\, carrying the Deity forms of Jagannatha\, Baladeva and Subhadra\, are pulled by hand through the city streets amid loud musical performances. Millions of pilgrims come to the festival in Orissa. Jagannatha is a special and very merciful form of Krishna. \nRatha-yatra is the biggest street festival sponsored by ISKCON – and ends with a delicious\, sanctified vegetarian feast. It is celebrated by devotees of Lord Krishna all over the world and was introduced to the West by His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in 1967 in San Franscisco. The Ratha-yatra festivals are held at several different places across the country\, the biggest in London. \nThe London procession starts from Hyde Park Corner\, goes through Park Lane\, Piccadilly and Haymarket and finally arrives at Trafalgar Square\, where festivities continue till night. Drama\, dance\, philosophy and a feast are the highlights. \nLondon Rathayatra will take place on Sunday 21 July 2024 (www.rathayatra.co.uk) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	Schedule\n\n12pm – Ratha-yatra parade starts from Hyde Park Corner heading for Trafalgar Square \n2-5pm – Trafalgar Square – Kirtan\, Dance\, Prasad \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	Frequently asked questions\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow do I get there?\n\n\n\nComing by Train & Tube\nFrom any of the main London railway stations come on the Piccadilly Line and get off at Hyde Park Corner. When you come out of the tube station head for the south-east corner of the Park. The Rathayatra assembles near there so look out for the tall brightly coloured canopies of the Rath Carts. \nNational Rail Enquiries for rail information. \nComing by Road\nParking on Sunday is OK on single yellow lines in Westminster or you can stay safe with the NCP car parks. There is one just north of Trafalgar Square. Please remember there is no parking at the assembly point in Hyde Park nor any at Trafalgar Square. \nThe AA main routes and parking information. The procession assembles just inside Hyde Park -500 yards west of Hyde Park Corner. You will clearly spot the three colourful carts as you approach. There are three or four kirtan (singing and instrument) sections\, each with dancers. You can pull the ropes on the cart (which bestows liberation) but please follow the instructions of stewards and staff. The cart leaves Hyde Park promptly at mid-day and arrives at Trafalgar Square around 2.30pm. This can feel like a long journey on a hot day and a OAP van is provided at the rear of the procession for the infirm. Bring a bottle of water to refresh yourself along the way. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	Preview from previous festivals
