August 27

Free

Tuesday 27 August 2024

His Divine Grace, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (1896-1977) is widely regarded as the world’s pre-eminent exponent of the teachings and practices of bhakti-yoga to the Western world. The appearance of Srila Prabhupada, the Founder-Acharya of The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), is celebrated joyfully by devotees around the world with heartfelt appreciations and chanting of the holy names of the Lord, reflecting on his profound influence on their lives.

Write a Vyasa Puja offering

Srila Prabhupada, the founder and acharya (teacher) of the Hare Krishna movement, is an exemplary devotee of Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. It was Srila Prabhupada who, at an advanced age, distributed genuine spirituality throughout the world, and who continues to do so today through his sincere followers. Srila Prabhupada is utterly worthy of our glorification and his appearance day, Vyasa Puja, is an ideal occasion to glorify him.

There’s no word limit; what we seek is some words from your heart.

General Guidelines for Your Vyasa Puja Offering:

Opening of an Offering:

An opening of an offering can be like this: “Dear Srila Prabhupada,
Please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to you on this auspicious day of your Vyasa Puja.
This is equally acceptable as an opening to your offering or anything equivalent to the above.

Suggestions:

Glorification of Srila Prabhupada:

His qualities, his pastimes, his contributions to society, the role that he is playing in our lives.
Scriptural References:
A verse describing the qualities of a pure devotee and our realization of those qualities in Srila Prabhupada or relating that to Srila Prabhupada.

Spiritual Progress:

How is your spiritual growth?
How are you meeting challenges? How has Srila Prabhupada helped you?
How are you carrying out his orders?
Requesting His Mercy and Blessings

Express Genuine Feelings:

Express your gratitude, love, and indebtedness to him.
How has your life transformed?
How has he reciprocated in your day-to-day life?

Typically, an offering can contain the above sections, but there are no hard and fast rules that it has to stick to this format only. The general idea is that a disciple expresses his gratitude and love to the spiritual master.

Finally, an offering should end with a nice phrase such as “Your humble servant” or something similar to show our desire to please the spiritual master, followed by your initiated name (if initiated) or your legal name (prefixed by “Bhakta” if men / “Bhaktin” if women). In case of legal name, mention your initials/surnames after your name only. Ex: Bhaktin Shailaja M S / Bhakta Raghuram P/ Bhaktin Suma Manikyam/ Bhakta Prashanth Mulkatte / Raja Rama Dasa / Pavana Putra Dasa / Sita Rani Devi Dasi.

We request devotees to read the other devotee’s offerings to get an idea of how to write an offering. Vyasa-Puja-2022-Digital.pdf (krishnatemple.com)

Editorial Standards
All the offerings will be compiled and published in a beautiful printed book, and these books are preserved in both hard copy and soft copy forms. So, we request devotees to maintain certain standards as given below. By respecting these guidelines, you will be supporting our devotees to perform their editorial services to Srila Prabhupada in a better way.

The Vyasapuja offering is meant for glorifying the Spiritual Master. So, offerings need to be made in that mood and not be used as a platform for airing one’s grievances.

You can read the previous years’ Vyasapuja offerings written by devotees, which can give you some ideas of how to express yourself. Kindly write your offering by yourself.

You may copy brief verses/quotations, if required, from Veda-base. Please retain the diacritics if any. Kindly mention the name of the book, chapter number, and verse number or any reference number, like it’s usually written in Srila Prabhupada’s books. For example: SB 6.4.15. Kindly include the English translation if the verse is not well known.

Kindly do not reuse or edit an offering from previous years or copy someone else’s writing.

Kindly address the offering directly to Srila Prabhupada instead of writing an essay about Srila Prabhupada.

We urge each and every devotee to send an offering. Please do not miss this opportunity.

Send your offering to: vyasapuja@krishnatemple.com

Deadline for submitting offerings is Friday 9th August.
