Course Description
The Vaishnava calendar is not symbolic — it is astronomical. Every Ekadashi, Purnima, and festival observance is rooted in precise lunar and planetary calculations. But how does it actually work? In this workshop, we will explore the astrological intelligence behind the Gaudiya Vaishnava calendar. You will gain clarity on the meaning of key tithis such as Ekadashi and Dvadashi, why the Moon governs devotional timing, and how sacred days are calculated according to Vedic astronomy. We will also examine the pivotal role of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur in refining the Vaishnava calendar. Going further, we will uncover how priests and pujaris apply astrological principles in daily worship from selecting Deity outfit colours according to planetary rulership, to choosing auspicious timings (muhurta) for yajnas and ceremonies. This session offers both philosophical depth and practical understanding, revealing how devotional life is harmonised with cosmic order. You will walk away seeing the calendar not as dates on a page, but as a living expression of sacred time.
