Srimati Gangamata Goswamini was a princess. From childhood she had a great attachment to studying the Srimad Bhagavatam and to Krishna.
When she grew up, she refused to marry anyone, for her only attachment was to Krishna. After her parents passed away she went to Vrindavan and took shelter of the great devotee Haridas Pandit who accepted her as his disciple. She gave up all of her riches and comforts, and constantly practiced devotional service with great austerity despite being a princess.
Pleased with her mature devotion, Haridas Pandit requested her to go to Puri to spread devotional service and remain there. She started speaking on the Bhagavatam and soon became so adored for her narrations that even the King came to listen. The King later became her disciple being inspired by Lord Jagannatha in a dream.
