Bhaktivedanta Players tour Mauritius for special Anniversary

The well-renowned Bhaktivedanta Players, continue their 40th anniversary celebrations with great enthusiasm. This year they took a core team of them to the island of Mauritius, where devotees hosted five festivals to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Srila Prabhupada’s historic arrival there on 1st October 1975. On that occasion, the Prime Minister of Mauritius personally invited Srila Prabhupada for a state visit, honouring him as a spiritual ambassador.

More than 2600 devotees attended the main event in a huge venue, and the main organisers were Nitya Gopal and Advaita Krishna prabhus. The highlight of the evening was a drama depicting Srila Prabhupada’s early efforts to establish Krishna consciousness in the West. The final scene portrayed Srila Prabhupada’s arrival in Mauritius. This powerful moment brought the entire audience to their feet, resounding in a thunderous chorus of “Hari Bol!”

Many people later expressed their appreciation, saying how inspired they felt by the drama and how Srila Prabhupada’s presence was felt throughout the performance.

The Players even ran a ‘fun drama workshop’ for local community members!

The year thus marks a double milestone: 40 years of devotional drama by the Bhaktivedanta Players, and 50 years since Srila Prabhupada first set foot in Mauritius. Both anniversaries remind us of the transformative power of spiritual culture.

The Players will conclude their 40th anniversary celebrations with a unique Krishna-conscious rendition of “The Lion King”, scheduled for 20th December.
