Humility

Humility

By Visakha Dasi | from the 12-part ‘Nurturing bhakti through loving exchanges’ series

Srila Prabhupada writes, “Without humility, understanding is not truly possible… The beginning of knowledge, therefore, is amanitva, humility. One should be humble and know that he is subordinate to the Supreme Lord.” (Gita 13.8-12 purport)

It’s an enormous relief to understand that Sri Krishna is the Supreme Person and that our foremost duty is to serve Him. This means we can stop trying to enjoy and control this material world and instead do our God-given duty while developing our love for Krishna.

Humility is reality, for in the final analysis, each of us is insignificant. Yet Krishna loves us. And we have the ability to love Him and be fully satisfied. At that time, we’ll also love Krishna’s creation and all the beings in it. In Krishna’s words, “For one who sees Me everywhere and sees everything in Me, I am never lost, nor is he ever lost to Me.” (Gita 6.30)

November Challenge
Let us defy modern propaganda that makes us dissatisfied with what we have, and instead try to realise that what we have materially is enough.
