In April, Krishna Wisdom launched an exciting new initiative—the Cows and Farm Retreat—at Bhaktivedanta Manor. This retreat was created to attract individuals who are drawn to nature, simple living, and high thinking, offering them a unique opportunity to connect with the land, cows, and values of Krishna consciousness.
The retreat aimed to reach an audience that might not typically attend kirtans or yoga classes, offering a more nature-based, hands-on spiritual experience. Being in harmony with nature is an essential aspect of Krishna consciousness, and this retreat gave participants a chance to live that principle in a very real and tangible way.
Around 15 participants joined for the day. The group geared up in steel-toe boots and headed to the goshala, where they picked up shovels to help spread fresh straw for the cows and bulls, cleaned the area and collected cow dung. Everyone worked together to create a comfortable new bedding area for the cows, which was both joyful and grounding.
Then they brushed and massaged the retired cows—an experience that turned out to be deeply therapeutic, not just for the cows, but also for the participants!
After a scenic walk across the fields to the organic farm, they plant seeds that will grow into vegetables later this summer—another beautiful way to engage with the land.
The retreat brought together people of all ages in a joyful, educational and meaningful way.
This retreat is part of Krishna Wisdom, an initiative that began over 10 years ago at Bhaktivedanta Manor to engage a broader and more diverse audience—especially those new to or unfamiliar with the Krishna tradition.
