Relating to our wider circle

Relating to our wider circle

By Visakha Dasi | from the 12-part ‘Nurturing bhakti through loving exchanges’ series

Colleagues, neighbours, acquaintances, distant relatives – we probably have dozens (or even hundreds) of such people in our lives, and it’s important to have nourishing relationships with them. To attempt this goal we first need to ensure that we have high quality alone time (see the Self-Care article); the restorative power of that time will help us invest in other relationships.

That investment is at its best when we make our exchanges with others meaningful. If we find that our self-care is benefitting us, we might tell others about it, for self-care may benefit them, too. And if we find that activities like chanting, reading, meditating and praying during that alone time are nourishing us, we can discuss that as well. This sort of conversation is both pleasurable and beneficial. And if our relatives, friends and acquaintances begin self-care, we’ll have so much more to speak about with them!
