Springtime on the Farm – Channel 5

Daisybeck Productions, working with Channel 5 on its Springtime on the Farm series, travelled from Yorkshire to Bhaktivedanta Manor’s New Gokul Farm to capture exclusive footage.

Filming took place over two days, documenting traditional hand-milking, attentive cow care, oxen working the fields, and the Holland Farm horticultural project.

As a special highlight, the team also recorded Go Mochana Utsava — “the festival of letting the cows out.” After spending the winter months sheltered in barns, the cows and oxen were released back into open pasture, a moment marked by visible excitement as they leapt, stretched, and reacquainted themselves with the fields. Devotees gathered to witness this joyful transition from winter housing to spring grazing.

The segment placed particular emphasis on the work of New Gokul’s Chief Herdsman, Achyuta Masoumi, highlighting his role in maintaining the farm’s distinctive approach to animal care.

This footage featured in the episode of Springtime on the Farm broadcast on Wednesday 22 April 2026. It can still be viewed via Channel 5’s on-demand platform (the “5” streaming service) by searching for the programme.

New Gokul Farm promotes a model of sustainable agriculture rooted in compassionate cow protection. Cows are hand-milked, oxen are engaged in purposeful fieldwork, and all animals are cared for throughout their full natural lives, reflecting an ethical and holistic approach to farming.
