Lord of the Universe graces Liverpool

The dedicated team of brahmacaris (monks) trained at Bhaktivedanta Manor, have organised another successful event in Liverpool.

On the morning of the Ratha Yatra on Saturday 23rd August, the monks and local volunteers prepared prasad (vegetarian food), at the Shree Radha Krishna Temple on Edge Lane.

Volunteers set up tents for stalls offering mehndi (henna), face painting, and books in Williamson Square.

Once the Rath had arrived from London, a traditional opening ceremony commenced, which included the breaking of coconuts. A host of dignitaries participated, including Paula Barker, MP for Liverpool Wavertree, plus Cllr Nick Small, Cllr Steve Radford, and Cllr Pat Moloney from Liverpool City Council. Also present was Mr Divyesh Patel, Chair of the Shree Radha Krishna Temple,

The procession proceeded through the city centre as devotees and well-wishers sang Hare Krishna, while pulling the Rath. After reaching the eyes and ears of copious shoppers, the procession returned to Williamson Square. As 800 people enjoyed their prasad, kirtan was performed with many people joining in.

“Lord Jagannatha is the master of the universe and He attracted countless locals with palatable prasad and the vibration of the Holy Names,” said Antaranga das. “Liverpool Ratha Yatra was a spiritual and cultural experience and people were pleased. More to come, if the Lord desires!”
