Children from Gurukula – The Hare Krishna Primary School brought joy and devotion to two major community Diwali events this October.
On 11th October, the young students filled Watford’s Atria Shopping Centre with vibrant kirtan and dance performances, before joining a colourful parade along the High Street — all part of the town’s festive Diwali celebrations. Shoppers paused to watch as the children sang and danced with heartfelt enthusiasm, spreading the uplifting spirit of devotion and unity.

The following week, Gurukula students were invited by Cllr Tushar Kumar, Deputy Mayor of Elstree and Borehamwood, to open the town’s official Diwali event, organised by the local council. Their kirtan was followed by a graceful Bharatanatyam solo performed by a Year 6 student, in honour of Lord Rama.

With more than 500 people gathered at Allum Hall, the atmosphere was both festive and spiritual. Cllr Kumar presented awards and certificates to the children, praising their performance:
“It was an honour to have Gurukula open the Diwali Festival with such a beautiful and soul-stirring kirtan. The children sang with such devotion and purity; it really set the tone for the day.”
The event also featured a Ramayana drama by members of the Pandava Sena, and a ceremonial lamp-lighting led by Visakha dasi, Temple President of Bhaktivedanta Manor, alongside other distinguished guests.

Among the dignitaries present were Rakesh Kumar (Deputy Director of The Nehru Centre), Lord Raval of Hertsmere, and Rakesh Dahiya from the High Commission of India in London.
