The Essence of Yoga with Garuda Das

The Essence of Yoga with Garuda Das

Course Description

The Essence Of Yoga

When we hear the word yoga we all have a different idea of what this means. Kriya yoga, astanga yoga, hatha yoga…to name just a few! Some see it as different postures or breathing exercises to calm the mind, some see it as a way to maintain the physical body and others see it as a way to go deeper within. Whilst all of these hold true in terms of the benefits of yoga, we often miss the essence of what yoga is really about. In this course, Garuda Das aka Graham M. Schweig, PhD (Harvard), one of Srila Prabhupada’s direct disciples and a scholar of classical texts on Yoga, will present the true meaning of yoga and how the different types of yoga all come together within its highest practice, bhakti yoga, “a pure heart that is fully absorbed in the Divine”.

In 1972, he took up the life of a bhakta and received harināma and brahminical initiations from A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Śrīla Prabhupāda in 1974, committing himself to the Brahma-madhva-gauḍīya tradition of Krishna Bhakti.
